Who says news has to be sad?

Day Three. Feb 3rd, 2011
The day I got my refund check
P.S. ignore my awkward thumbs

So that picture above probably explains (or means) nothing to you, however, to me that is the most exciting piece of paper I have ever held. That there, my friends, is my refund check for 1,000 smack-a-roos! Now, to get that would be exciting to anybody, amirite? For me it is very special though, I didn't want to leak it quite yet, but, oh bollocks, I'll just let it out. I am going to India! This check pays for almost half my trip.

I feel like now is really the right time to go. I have had people tell me it's not I need to save and wait, and I totally respect that and can see where they are coming from, but they are not me. They don't sit in my room with me watching BBC specials about India, or volunteering to do India as a country presentation in macroeconomics (Brooke, sound familiar? Haha.) I have wanted to go to India for the longest time and this trip is perfect, here are some reasons why.

1) It is a service project, but on the weekends we will still get to sightsee.
2) One of my best friends is (most likely) coming as well.
3) Home-stays with local people are a good chance.
4) We get to teach children, how to read ( or at least start to).
5) We are helping build a full-function library in a town, that otherwise would have no access to books.

The last point is esp. important to me, I love charity work, but when it involves further educating people, well that is priceless. Maybe, I'll get to to talk to a future doctor. Maybe just a kid who loves soccer. Who knows, but whatever I do I have a feeling that they will teach me far more than I can teach them. (Wow my post are really cheesy haha I need to work on that!)

Au revoir,
Kelsie
