Recap

Take a peek into my life these past couple weeks.

I saw Duddy B. (below) and the Dirty Heads, such a good concert. I also found some sweet new tunes with their warm-up bands Pacific Dub and New Politics.

An amazing concert I got to be front row for, Duddy even high fived me after.

I got some custom toms.
I diggum, what about you?

I hung out with the boy. He is great.

I got to see one of my favorite artist, again front row, ahh, Trevor Hall, you are beautiful.

I also discovered some great new artist here like Cubworld and Cas Haley (below).
P.S. He was on America's got talent, and oh boy does he have talent!

Bonus question: Who gets lucky enough to have their camera taken by Trevor Hall two concerts in a row? Answer: this blogger.

I got to celebrate Holi with one of my best friends.

. . . and what seemed to be the rest of Utah.

Overall, I have had a great couple of weeks.

(After the shower after Holi; a day later and my ears are still purple and my hair is still pink.)
Bye friends,
Kelsie

Career Day

"I'm cursed by all ambitious thoughts."

I feel like that statement, those simple words above, truly describe my current state of being.

Fall registration is coming (I know the spring season isn't even here, but we have to decide what we are going to do with our lives 6 months from now) and I'm panicking because 1) I am a junior and have not declared a major and according to the almighty rules of Westminster College "if thou haveth 60 credits, thou must declareth a major" and 2) I have no idea what classes I want to take; that was until I started to take a look at the catalog. As I was reading over the list I said, "Kelsie, you got to think about classes that 1) don't start early because you know you won't be attending those . . . ever and 2) classes that you genuinely are going to be interested in." Then I went for it.

I sifted through the list of economics and film studies, my (also undeclared) minor, classes being offered and found some contenders.

Environmental Economics: to consider the environmental effects that companies play in the economy.

Economic Justice: which sounds incredibly hard, but with that comes incredible interest.

Along with those some other required courses, I won't bore you with those.

As I looked at class after class I realized something: I have no clue what I'm doing after school.

All through high school they prepare you to go to college. At the start of college they prepare you for college life/classes. Now, I've reached the point where I need to be prepared for the "real world." Gulp! Now that is a scary thought. What the heck am I going to do with an econ degree?  I have so many ideas so many goals and so many ambitious thoughts that curse me. I want to change the world. I want to get out and do something that changes not only my life, but the life of others. I'm not superwomen so unless I fall into some toxic vat jumping off building to save people is probably out of the question. However, there is so much out there I can do and I can't wait to start exploring those kind of careers out there in the (not so) scary real world.

So long for now,
Kelsie

DFTBA

Here's the deal, I am a nerd.

Yep, a full fledged, self-proclaimed nerd.

You know what else? I am proud of it. I am proud to say that I get good grades, that I enjoy reading, and that I listen to talk radio. In my opinion the role of the word nerd has changed. For me when I was younger (let's just come out with it, the glorious jr. high years) being "cool" was what it was about. I wanted to be the cheerleader. I wanted to have popular friends. It was what was happin' when I was 13. Most of all I wanted to fit in, with somebody; I felt like if I could just be cool I wouldn't feel so awkward about myself.

Jump forward six years and I'm still that same awkward girl, but now somethings different.

These days I don't care if I fit in, and honestly there is nowhere to fit into. There are groups of kids on campus, but we are all in the same boat takin' the cruise to find out who we really are. It's true, I still get embarrassed if I say something outrageously inappropriate for the topic at hand (it does happens a lot), but I have learned to play it off instead of obsessing over it. I truly feel like I am starting to come into my own me. I love the nerdiness, I love the side of me that wants to help every single homeless person I see, I love the side of me that would do anything to not do anything and be completely lazy. Most of all I am truly starting to love me.

P.S. If you get this title you, too, are a nerd. If not check this out and become a nerdfighter.

These Are My Confessions.

Just when I thought all I said all I could say, my chick on the side said she got one on the way...

Wait, what? I'm doing different confessions, but thanks, Usher, for the (lame-ish?) opening.

I'm feeling a bit down today. So my grandmothers son's daughter told me that I should make a list of quirky things relating to me. Some things on the list no one knows and others may be common knowledge, but either way they are all pretty random, so here it goes:

I would rather listen to music then talk to you when we are in the car.

I can barely park and most of the time can't back out. So I have been known to park far away from my destination just to avoid this.

I have missed my exit several times before because I was jamming out to a song and not paying attention.

Hey, wait, all of these have to do with your car . . .
I know, voice in my head, but thats not a quirk and I'll start mixing it up.

The people at Noodles and Co. of Sugarhouse know me because I practically eat there every time I don't feel like Shaw (Westminster's food center).

I have no idea why my boyfriend loves me, but he does and as unexplainable as it is it's amazing.
Oh, and I love him too.

I try my hardest to make people laugh when I'm hurting the most.

I love the shower, and take really long showers because you can be alone and sing and think and cry and just be with yourself.

I wash my sheets more than average because I get the best night sleep on clean sheets.

I am very competitive and sometimes it makes me really jealous.

If I was judging a fruit contest banana would win hands down every time.

We needed a picture break and
it's funny to just see a post with a bunch
of words and a single picture of a banana

I could drink a raspberry banana smoothie everyday, and I pretty much do.

I want to live in the 60s and would love to go to the original Woodstock.

I watch documentaries habitually.

I procrastinate on a dangerous level.

I was a trendsetter with the dance solos I did. ( I did a dance in a straight jacket the next year a bunch of girls did the same)

I don't like casual texting.

I want to be a filmmaker, but I am scared I will fail miserably at it.

I got lucky and have really good skin.

I love studying economics.

I hate shoes, but love dressing up.

I love grandma patterns and grandma names like Mabel or Doris.

I think I'll stop here. I have to admit this did help me a little, maybe you got a something out of it as well; and, hey, at least I'm not as sad as I used to be.

Cheers,

Kelsie

I love love, I love being in love!

I love today, I love love love it!

I love like this:

Or when people first learn to love,

I even love the love that I hope one day everyone will come to love,

Most of all I just love this day, not for the marketing scams or for the unbroken diets, but just because for at least one day we are all focused on love. I am just bursting with happiness right now and it's because this day, when I look at it as love day, gives me so much hope. So, to you and your kin Happy Love Day. May you spread the love (spoken like the true hippie I am.)

With Love,

Kelsie

The Longest Untitled Post (possibly ever, but who can know that?)

Q: So what would happen if I actually updated my blog? A: Jessica Palomino would be happy. Haha but aside from her reminding me that I was the one gun-ho about the blogging and need to start updating, I would be able to express myself better rather than just bottle things up or ignore them.

I haven't updated in awhile (Sorry, blokes) so I'm going to try and post as much as I can remember. Oh, and another thing I realized I live too much of a beautiful mundane life to be forced by some challenge to take pictures daily, instead I am just going to take pictures of creatures, objects, whatever I find beauty in. It could be two a day or two a month, but I think I'll find this more to my liking. (Sorry, Shyanne)

3pm traffic (a post within a post In Inception-like fashion):

The other day I was driving on the freeway on a lovely afternoon (I mean really lovely, the sun was even shining) and I hated it. I hated being behind slow people ( I drive fast, but they weren't even doing the speed limit). I hated that I forgot my iPod and had to listen to Crapdio (crap radio). Then I realized I just hated being stuck just going. I wanted to be outside in the sun, listening to Regina, Trevor or my other favorites. Coinciding with this I also came to the realization that I love driving at dusk time,  and being stuck in 5 o' clock traffic especially if their is a rainstorm (this is of course assuming I have my iPod).

In both these cases I feel it's all about observing. In the first situation I don't want to observe from my car, I want to be involved I want to see people on the frontline, over hear conversations, get to know them by how they act when they feel no one is judging. Before you stop reading to call the cops, because you are now convinced I am a stalker just note that I just like to people watch, I think it's one of the most fascinating time consumers. . . back to my point . . . In the second story I don't mind being observant with my thoughts alone. Rainstorms or weather of the sort always bring about pensive moods, at least for me. I said "back to my point" but I don't even know if I have one I just wanted to tell a story, really. I just wanted to talk about the things I think about in my everyday life. So I think I will leave it here on a semi-cliffhanger, because, honestly, a lot of the times that's how I leave my thoughts. To be continued when my wandering mind returns to it.

Now a visual expression of the past couple of 24 hour increments:

An art project of sorts, very easy to make picture holders
maybe one day I'll show the pictures

A trip to the dentist=a membership to the no cavity club for me

I love this girl, and if you are wondering the money
is for "sexual favors"

An amazing show that I was lucky enough to see.
My vagina fell in love with it.

Ah, the life of a college kid.
At least I got to read this book out in the sun
it was a very nice day (2-13-11).

Who says news has to be sad?

Day Three. Feb 3rd, 2011
The day I got my refund check
P.S. ignore my awkward thumbs

So that picture above probably explains (or means) nothing to you, however, to me that is the most exciting piece of paper I have ever held. That there, my friends, is my refund check for 1,000 smack-a-roos! Now, to get that would be exciting to anybody, amirite? For me it is very special though, I didn't want to leak it quite yet, but, oh bollocks, I'll just let it out. I am going to India! This check pays for almost half my trip.

I feel like now is really the right time to go. I have had people tell me it's not I need to save and wait, and I totally respect that and can see where they are coming from, but they are not me. They don't sit in my room with me watching BBC specials about India, or volunteering to do India as a country presentation in macroeconomics (Brooke, sound familiar? Haha.) I have wanted to go to India for the longest time and this trip is perfect, here are some reasons why.

1) It is a service project, but on the weekends we will still get to sightsee.
2) One of my best friends is (most likely) coming as well.
3) Home-stays with local people are a good chance.
4) We get to teach children, how to read ( or at least start to).
5) We are helping build a full-function library in a town, that otherwise would have no access to books.

The last point is esp. important to me, I love charity work, but when it involves further educating people, well that is priceless. Maybe, I'll get to to talk to a future doctor. Maybe just a kid who loves soccer. Who knows, but whatever I do I have a feeling that they will teach me far more than I can teach them. (Wow my post are really cheesy haha I need to work on that!)

Au revoir,
Kelsie
